Where the Staircase Ends Blog Tour: Interview with Stacy Stokes @chapterxchapter @stacyastokes @month9books

Today we're joining the WHERE THE STAIRCASE ENDS blog tour by chatting with author Stacy Stokes. This book definitely looks awesome, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Let's get to know more about Stacy and her book. And don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the post!

Hi Stacy! Welcome to We Do Write. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi there! Thanks so much for having me.  I’m a regular We Do Write Reader, and I’m SO excited to get to be on the other side of the screen. *waves*
As for me, I grew up in Dallas, but have been living in San Francisco for the last five years with my husband and the newest edition to our family, Elvis Presley the Dog. A few things you won’t find in my bio:
  • I hate bananas (they are the devil’s food.)
  • I studied improv comedy in Chicago and performed on the same stage as my comedic idol, Tina Fey
  • I love Halloween
  • I believe all varietals of gummy candy were put on this earth to make me happy
  • Traveling is my favorite
  • The amount of money I spend on books is embarrassing
Love your dog's name! Tell our readers a bit about Where the Staircase Ends.
Here’s a quick synopsis:
How high would you climb to learn the truth?
After her best friend orchestrates the lie that destroys her reputation, Taylor wants to disappear from her life. But when an accident turns this unspoken wish into reality, instead of an angel-filled afterlife, Taylor must climb a seemingly endless staircase into the sky.
The journey plunges her into the past, and as she unravels the mystery behind her friend’s betrayal, she must face the truth and find the strength to forgive the unforgivable.
Unless the staircase breaks her first.
So excited to read this! How did the idea of the story come to you?
I had a dream about a girl stranded on a staircase that climbed up into the sky. I knew she was upset about something, and I knew she had no option but to climb. When I woke up I felt compelled to tell her story. I also had the last line from an Emily Dickenson poem stuck in my head, and I knew it had something to do with the story as well. Which is bizarre, because it had been over a decade since I’d read that poem.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Panster all the way. I literally cannot outline, no matter how hard I try.
What’s the hardest part of writing for you?
There’s always a part in every story where I hit a wall and cannot for the life of me figure out how to move things forward. During those moments, it’s hard to stay motivated, especially if I have a new story idea that’s lurking and begging for attention. I’ve found that the best thing to do is to get up and walk away for a few days, then come back with fresh eyes.
What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?
A glass of water (gotta stay hydrated) and the notebook I use to write down all the wacky ideas that come to me throughout the day when I’m not able to get to my computer.  The occasional bag of gummy bears doesn’t hurt either.
What are you reading right now?
I just started Lauren Oliver’s VANISHING GIRLS last night, and already I’m in love.  She’s one of my favorite writers. I’m also listening to READY PLAYER ONE on audible. I walk just about everywhere so I always like to have a good story to listen to on my iPhone.
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Is there a super power that gives you more super powers, or is that like asking the genie for more wishes? Because ideally I would be a teleporting psychic with invisibility powers who can speak multiple languages and turn things to gold with a single touch (but only when I choose to so I can skip having to wear gloves all the time.)
But if that’s not possible, then I guess I’d go with flying.
LOL. I do like the way your brain works, though. What's the weirdest thing you've googled?
I’m currently writing a YA thriller, so I’ve googled some pretty odd ways to murder people…which likely has me on a few FBI watch lists.
Finish this sentence: If I'm not writing, I'm probably ...
Walking Elvis Presley around San Francisco or enjoying the company of friends.
Elvis Presley at his Finest.
So cute! Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs.
Ah! So many!  This isn’t like the Oscars where I’m going to get cut off in a few minutes, is it? *bites nails*
Okay, here goes. I have been absolutely blown away by all the friends who’ve supported me throughout this process. Seriously their kindness makes my head explode. You would kill me if I listed every single name here, so let me just send a huge thank you out to all the fabulous SF, work, school, UT, family, KD and hometown friends who have helped support this launch. I love, love, love you. And the hubs, too, for being fantastic.
I’d also like to give a shout out to the wonderful women of Thinking To Inking, and a special shout out to Leslie Ziegler, who took the photo for my book cover.  And you guys, for inviting me here today. THANK YOU!
